Reopen an accounting period

When to use it

Use this guide when you need to reopen an accounting period.

Before you start

  • Open Accounting Periods from the module menu. Your account must have access to this screen and permission for the action you want to complete.

What this changes

An eligible accounting period is reopened with a recorded reason.

Closing an accounting period restricts posting. Journals group accounting entries; manual journals must balance before saving and are reviewed before sync.

Steps

  1. Find the closed period that needs a correction.
  2. Choose Reopen and enter why the period needs to be reopened.
  3. Select Reopen period.
  4. Check its saved status and Last Reopened information before entering the correction.

Restrictions

Reopen access is required. A reason must be supplied. Follow the response if the period is not eligible for reopening.

If something went wrong

After an unclear Reopen period, check that month's saved status and Last Reopened information before trying again.

If you reopened the wrong month, tell Finance and review whether any entries were posted while it was open. Use Close or hard close only after the reviewer has checked the period and agreed the correct state.

Check the correction

Check final period status and history, and any entries posted during the unintended reopening. Changing status does not undo those entries.
